Yes! Brick slips can be installed directly to render providing the render is sound, free from cracks and is not crumbling. Brick slips can be fitted directly to render regardless of the age. With that said, there are a few considerations to consider which your installer or us can advise you on. For example, for most areas we advise using our primer to create a bond between the adhesive and the render.
It works by sealing the render to prevent the moisture being taken from the adhesive. Some people may advise using PVA but we certainly do not, PVA should only be used when plastering, primer has a better chemical make0-up making it much more suitable for preparation of installing brick slips.
This can improve adhesion and ensure a strong bond. However, it’s important to note that the render should be in good condition and free from any loose or flaking areas before proceeding.
Alternatively, you could remove the render and affix the brick slips directly to the underlying brickwork. This may provide a more stable and secure installation, especially if the render is old or damaged. Bear in mind this will incur extra expense which is not needed if the render is sound.
